Stevens Engineers & Constructors has an excellent opportunity for an experienced and highly motivated Project Manager to join our Pittsburgh Operations Team. The ideal candidate will have project management experience industrial construction markets. The Project Manager position is responsible for providing oversight for all phases of industrial construction projects, including coordinating employees, subcontractors, materials, equipment, while ensuring that specifications are being followed, and work is performed within quality standards as well as on schedule and within budget.

The ideal candidate will also have a client focus approach and will work well independently and as part of the project team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide leadership and to establish and maintain effective and harmonious working relationships with all those involved in the project.

Organize and execute the project safety compliance program within the guidelines of company policies. Initiate project safety meetings for on-site supervisors and labor force.

Interface with the client as his primary contact, by receiving and communicating initial project setup information and periodic project status, writing significant project related correspondence, and representing the Company in meetings.

Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the provisions and requirements of all contract documents, including plans, specifications, owner’s contract, subcontracts and purchase orders.

Develop and/or analyze the preliminary project documentation, such as project code of accounts, subcontracts and purchase orders.

Organize and plan the execution of the physical work.

Develop the project schedule and direct its long-term planning and execution.

Communicate/coordinate schedule and plan with subcontractors and vendors.

Recognize on-site activities which may impede project progress or jeopardize compliance to project/contract requirements. Prepare and submit related informational documents to the client or other responsible parties and implement corrective measures.

Maintain strict control of the project budget for each work activity. Report monthly on the progress and current profitability of the project.

Write subcontracts and purchase orders for field generated purchases and contracts. Review and approve related subcontractor and vendor invoices and change requests.

Prepare, quote and negotiate contract changes with General Manager’s guidance.

Maintain open communication with all other support and business units involved with the project.

Maintain open line of communication with the local union officials.

Promote goodwill with clients, architects, engineers etc., to facilitate construction activities and future repeat business.

Supervise the project activities of the on-site project engineer, field superintendents, office manager and clerk.

Participate in bidding, pre-construction services, budgeting and Continuous Improvement Programs.

SKILL FACTORS

Bachelor’s Degree with major coursework in Construction Management Construction Science, Building Science, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.

Five (5) years of project management experience in the construction industry.

Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently.

Able to manage team of employees and multiple projects.

Experienced at compiling and following strict budgets.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Accurate and precise attention to detail.

Goal-oriented and organized leadership.

Able to analyze problems and strategize for better solutions.

In-depth understanding of the construction industry.

Organized and able to create multiple timelines, budgets, and schedules.

Knowledge of local, state, and federal building code regulations.

Computer Skills: Proficient with Microsoft Office; Microsoft Project and experience with construction / project management software.

The Civil Designer/Drafter for structural and foundation design is responsible for creating drawings, layouts, and designs of various structures and foundations using basic design principles and reviewing the drawings to ensure compliance with design standards.  Requires a thorough understanding of coordinate systems, cartographic layout, and design techniques. Communicates with engineering or other technical personnel and works with construction and production teams during the building of a design.  Generally assists the civil engineering group by collecting data and completing routine reports to document project activities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES  

  • Uses CAD software to create detailed drawings that include dimensions, procedures, and required materials. 
  • Drafts plans and detailed drawings for industrial structures and foundations, working from sketches or notes.
  • Coordinates data collection and incorporates such information into drawings, maps, and schematics while consulting with engineers, surveyors, and other workers involved to prepare and present drawings.
  • Performs complex drafting and designing assignments with little to no supervision and reviews drawings for accuracy and completeness.  Also maintains all revisions of project drawings.
  • Creates drawings and models from verbal and written specifications that are obtained from the engineers.  Also examines and checks engineering drawings to comply with cited specifications.
  • Helps to ensure that project construction conforms to design specifications and applicable codes.
  • Develops plans and estimate costs for constructing systems and operating facilities.
  • Works with engineers regarding drafting standards, model design and accuracy, and design documentation.
  • Incorporates data from surveys and reports to prepare his drawings, as well as makes calculations.
  • Works closely with engineers and other designers/drafters to ensure the maintenance of coordination design efforts. 
  • Completes project responsibilities within scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Creates designs that feature the relationships between various systems and parts by incorporating mathematical formulas to produce component specifications and reproduce schematics to be used according to reference materials, such as manuals.
  • Coordinates with other professionals to understand design concepts and establish requirements.  When there is found a deficiency, revises designs to eliminate problems.
  • May offer technical assistance and solutions to the design team and participates in project meetings as needed.
  • Prepares reports and documents project activities and data.
  • Sets up and helps maintain project files and records.
  • Coordinates work with other disciplines such as mechanical, piping, electrical.

SKILL FACTORS

  • Graduation from an accredited two-year college or technical institute with major coursework in drafting, design, or a related field of study.
  • Four (4) years of professional experience in Civil Design/Drafting.
  • Detail-Oriented - Paying close attention to detail so the design plans being built are technically accurate to the specifications outlined.
  • Technical Skills - Must have the ability to use computer software and work with database tools.
  • Math Skills - These are important as he works with technical drawings that would require mathematical calculations that involve angles and weights, not to mention costs.
  • Critical-Thinking Skills - Helps the engineering team they work with by identifying problems with designs and plans.
  • Time-Management Skills - Works under strict deadlines but should still be able to produce the required output in accordance to set schedules.
  • Communication Skills - Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as technical writing.
  • Interpersonal Skills – Are a basic requirement considering that this position works closely with other professionals in the field to ensure the accuracy of final plans.
  • Strong Work Ethic – Must be results-driven.
  • Advanced Computer Skills - Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Excel, Project, Access), and Autocad 2019, Navisworks Manage 2019, and Navisworks Freedom engineering and design software, familiarity with Plant 3D and Cadworx 3D software is a plus.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES  

  • Performs structural design and analysis calculations using governing codes and standards, engineering formulas, skills, and experience.
  • Reviews Client's technical documentation and requirements.
  • Maintains project technical files.
  • Controls of subcontracted civil engineering documents.
  • Considers the strength of construction materials and select appropriately.
  • Provides technical advice on safe designs and construction.
  • Provides drawings for own designs and produce sketches to incorporate in drawings by designers/drafters.
  • Obtains planning and building regulations approval.
  • Monitors and inspects all work undertaken by contractors to ensure structural soundness.
  • Inspects properties to evaluate the conditions and foundations.
  • Prepares design specifications for reinforced concrete, buildings, earthworks, underground networks, piling works, and soil improvement.
  • Develops calculation notes for reinforced concrete, piling works, and stormwater collection systems.
  • Prepares material specifications and designs for structures and foundations.

SKILL FACTORS

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in civil engineering, structural engineering, or a related field of study.
  • Five (5) years of professional experience in structural and foundation engineering.
  • Must have an analytical and mathematical mind. 
  • Requires a strong grasp of physics and three-dimensional conceptual skills. 
  • Ability to solve challenging technical problems through creative solutions.
  • Accurate and precise attention to detail.
  • Good working knowledge of construction methods, materials, and legal regulations.
