If you've ever watched the Drew Carey Show you may have heard of Parma, without realizing it. The opening credits of The Drew Carey Show featured the song "Moon Over Parma" being sung by Drew Carey.  The song was originally penned in the late 1980's by Bob McGuire.  It became popular after being featured on the local show "Big Chuck and Lil' John".   

Parma, Ohio is is a city in Cuyahoga CountyOhio, United States, located on the southern edge of Cleveland. As of the 2010 census it is the seventh largest city in the state of Ohio and the second largest city in Cuyahoga County after Cleveland. 

Parma's focus on business development and aiding in the growth of small business has led to a bustling commercial district.  The Shoppes at Parma, to the Polish Village bring in many people from the community and surrounding areas.  Below you'll find some more information about the commercial district.

 

Commercial Districts

The Shoppes at Parma

The Shoppes at Parma is a commercial shopping district that totals approximately 800,000 square feet. Located approximately 3 miles south of Cleveland's southern border at the southwest corner of Ridge Road and West Ridgewood Drive in central Cuyahoga County. It is anchored by J.C. Penney, Dick's Sporting Goods, Marc's and Walmart. 

The commercial center into a pedestrian-friendly community-oriented mall with attractive landscaping, new lighting, creation of two tree-lined boulevards, repaving of the parking lots.  Conveniently located south of I-480 between I-71 and I-77 The Shoppes At Parma is a popular spot for many communities in the area.  


Ukrainian Village

The Ukrainian Village district is located along State Road between Tuxedo Avenue and Grantwood Drive. 

This Ukrainian Village district features a large number of small, family-owned businesses and medical offices, features one of the most "walkable" neighborhoods in Parma. This area also hosts the Ukrainian Independence Day parade (August).

In 2013, Parma formed a sister-city relationship with Lviv, Ukraine and is home to Ohio's largest Ukrainian community, the majority of whom are foreign born, with more than twice the number of any other city.

Parma is the seat of the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Saint Josaphat, which was established by Pope John Paul II in 1983.

Polish Village

The Polish Village district is located along Ridge Road between Pearl Road and Thornton Avenue. 

This Polish Village district features a large number of small, family-owned businesses and medical offices, and also features one of the most walkable neighborhoods in Parma.

This area also hosts the Polish Constitution Day parade (May), St. Charles Carnival parade (July), Independence Day parade (July), and Christmas parade (December).

 

Things To Do Around Parma

Located less than 10 miles from shores of Lake Erie there are plenty of activities and venues for you to enjoy in Parma. 

PARKS

Parma maintains several parks and recreational facilities for both residents and visitors to use. During the warmer season you can swim in one of three outdoor pools across the city on Ridgewood Road, Walters Avenue and West Pleasant Valley Road. Veterans Memorial Park, also known as State Road Park, has two sand volleyball courts, a one-mile walking trail, lake fishing and a disc golf course.

GOLF AND OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES

You can play golf at the Ridgewood Municipal Golf Course has 18 holes and is open from March through November. If golf isn't your sport  you can play bocce ball or horseshoes, at Senior Citizens Park near Parma's city hall enjoy a picnic lunch to in the park's pavilion area.

STEARNS HOMESTEAD

You can tour the 48-acre farm with historic museum houses, animals and a country store at Stearns Homestead in Parma. The farm is open on weekends from May through October and features a variety of regularly scheduled events, such as sheep shearing and a farmers' market. Tour guides are available at the farm's two museums, but most of the property is open for visitors to tour on their own. 

MICHAEL A. RIES ICE RINK

If you enjoy the fall and winter months then make sure to check out Michael A. Ries Ice Rink.  The ice rink is open from September through April with open skate sessions regularly scheduled at the rink and skates are available to rent. Youth hockey and figure skating also occur at the rink and a concession stand is available.
